Stoudamire on Suns radar?

07:37 AM ET 01.15 | If Memphis' Damon Stoudamire reaches a buyout agreement with Memphis, it seems likely the Suns would be interested in him. It would not be costly. He likely would sign with a contender for a pro-rated veteran's minimum. Stoudamire, 34, could give Phoenix a good open-court point guard who shoots well and is a vocal, veteran leader. He is also an ex-Portland teammate of Suns GM Steve Kerr, and both played at Arizona.

I'm with Hova on this one. I'm worried that once he goes into the game, the tempo might slow down, or he would get left behind.

He's prolly a better fit for the cavs, (or the Heat if he wants to continue his losing career)

Hova: Would you call him "Modest Mouse" instead?
I don't think he'd be that bad, but I think we'd be better suited to playing our existing players and signing a veteran big guy or possibly trading away one of those questionable contracts for a good one.

At the vet minimum, I'd think the Celts or Cavs would be a better fit but if the Suns want him, I'm ok with that. He'd be the only "point" guard on the team when Nash is resting.

Why add a Point when you already have 3 deep???

Banks is much better off the ball, similar to Barbosa. That's why the Suns run their offense through Diaw or Hill when Nash is resting. A (cheap) veteran point guard could help get Nash more rest.
There's no questioning Banks' ability to score or defend. It's his silly fouls and turnovers that get him on Dantoni's bad side.

Stoudamire would be a much better fit for the Cavs, I think or even the Heat, but if the Suns can get him for the veteran's minimum, why not..Someone else to wave towels on Amare's ferocious dunks....

Doesn't matter either way. He'll sit the bench then get scrub time when the suns are up 20 in the late 4th. It might just make the final score that much more of a blow out.

TLaff: Stoudamire would actually get to play and give Nash the rest he so importantly needs since he, unlike either Banks or Barbosa, is a true PG and can run the offense.

I definitely think that Damon should go to either the Cavs or the Celtics. Both teams need a veteran PG. Going to the HEAT would be a waste of his time, and the Suns....it is possible he may not be able to keep up with their style of play, however, it would be a perfect destination for him as a player. He would be playing in a freestyle system where he would not have to be the focus offensively, he would just need to be able to run the team while Nash rests.

I though Stoudamire was a shoot first point guard

Matrix: Since Stoudamire was usually the first option, that was his role in other offensive schemes; however, in PHX, he'd have to be a facilitator first and leave the scoring to the rest. It's not like we have a shortage of scorers here...

I dunno Skybill..D'Antoni made a similar assessment of one Marcus Banks...Even if he is a legit backup, the Suns real problem is they are getting their brains beat out on the boards and the second is scoring from the second unit...I really think there are other players out there that would benefit us better than Damon right now..What about a couple of first round picks, Diaw & Banks for Tracy McGrady (Would move Grant Hill to the second unit)? Or maybe players like Gooden from Cleveland, Chris Wilcox or Nick Collison from Seattle, Charlie Villuenueva from Milwaukee or even Troy Murphy from Indana.

I'm not a huge fan of McGrady and wouldn't sign off on that acquisition. I think Wilcox (who the Suns pursued), Collison, or a few of the others mentioned would be a good pick up. This just shows how valuable Thomas was to the team despite his contract and age. He should have been kept and Sarver eat the funds.
Sarver's cheapness is what holds us back. If you want a winner to play for the title, you need to pay for one by getting the necessary pieces. I'm not saying take the Knicks' road by ridiculously overspending, but I'm sure you know what I mean.
