08:36 AM ET 11.25 | A source close to former St. Louis Rams coach Mike Martz, most recently the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator last season, said the architect of The Greatest Show on Turf might finally be headed to Chicago.

The Bears need a QB coach, not an offensive coordinator.

Maybe Cutler needs glasses so he will stop throwing to the wrong team...a good optometrist would be better

Martz had receivers in STL... he did not in his other ports-of-call. He will not in CHI either if this rumor is indeed true.

Very true, plus the fact that Jay Cutler is no Kurt Warner. This is no comparison whatsoever, the Bears have deeper issues than a quick-fix change at offensive coordinator can deal with. Jay needs some time to gel with their receiver. And I dunno, maybe the team should try to RUN THE BALL every once in a while? I know, crazy right...

shows the coaching staff has lost thier focus, Run the ball!

November 25, 2009  09:03 AM ET

Old Mike Martz!!

I didn't know he was still around.

November 25, 2009  09:09 AM ET

If you want a running game, Martz isn't your man. He wouldn't give Marshal Faulk carries when the guy was in his prime. Welcome the "spread the field and spray the ball" offensive system to Chicago, if this rumor is to be believed.

He could be a creative shot in the arm over Ron Turner. Last season it was like that scene from The Waterboy, everybody knew their playbook and what the Bears would do on almost every down. Maybe we can some laser guidance for Cutler so he can hit his target receivers, GPS or something like that... Oh, and can the O-line open a hole for Forte to run through, please?

And that Bell kid. Give him the damn rock some more. He looked like our version of AP on that one run. Use him to soften up defenses a bit.

BAH!

November 25, 2009  09:24 AM ET

He is the last thing a guy like Cutler needs.

Bell did look damn good didnt he?

You cant jumpstart anything when there is no talent...

Got to agree there... this just screams of problems...

what wonderfully boring news

The Bears need a QB not a coach.

Agreed. Even if Martz isn't a solution, the Bears can still try to find an OC who's a little more creative. Axing Turner, while certainly not the answer to the offense's problems, would make a lot of Bears fans happy.

I thought they finally found the franchise QB they've never had.......

Hahahah!

When Ron Rivera left I felt that they had let the wrong Ron leave. The Bears Defense has gone downhill since that happened. You can call Urlacher and the rest overrated, but they played incredibly well under that man.

Martz may be Cutler's last chance to get his play to the next level.
It would be a very smart move, which means the Bears won't do it

They may have, but he still needs a coach. Grossman might have been a halfway decent QB if he had a better coach. Ok, maybe not, but since my misguided wife bought me a Grossman Bears jersey for my birthday (I was shocked they even still had those things) I've been trying to find some way to turn it into something positive. Still considering burning as an appeasement to the Football gods to turn their good will back to the Bears...
