Phoenix to Quebec?

08:27 AM ET 11.22 | The good mayor, Regis Lebeaume, had a few discussions/feelers with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman about bringing back the NHL and is on record that he wants his beautiful city to build a state-of-the-art arena to replace Le Colisee. This can't happen fast enough. If the bricks and mortar get in place, the league has to send its weakest link, Phoenix, to Quebec faster than a Boom Boom Geoffrion slapper.

Phoenix doesn't want the team and there are several cities that want it. I'm not sure why Bettman hasn't done moved them years ago except his inability to admit his own mistakes. Move Phoenix to Hamilton, move the Panthers to Quebec and dissolve Nashville, Atlanta, and any other cities that don't want the NHL teams. A smaller league would make for a better league with better teams.

I agree with this 100%, colder city teams in the northern U.S and Canada are the ones that should own NHL teams. Not teams that are struggling to keep the ice cold 60% of the season because of an average temperature of 70% year round.

I think Winnipeg is a better option since they already have an arena built, the Quebec arena wont be built for another 3-5 years, but I'm sure they can speed it up if they now a team is coming. Also, the conferences will all get messed up.

This is exactly what the league should do:

Winnipeg's arena is not an NHL arena (it is a glorified minor league arena). Plus the population of Winnipeg will never shell out the cash for more than a year or two to support a NHL franchise...

Winnipeg has a 14,000 seater. Too small for the NHL.

Phoenix to Hamilton.

The NHL wants to expand to Southern Ontario or Toronto because that way they can get an expansion fee and get way more money.

15 000 at max capacity with poor sight lines and a concourse that is more crowded than old Winnipeg Arena (built on too small a piece of property)...the owners of the facility just needed to take a short drive south to Grand Forks to see the Ralph or Excel Energy in the Twin Cities to see how a rink should be built.

It was built with AHL in mind, not with a return of the NHL.

With that attitude we wouldn't have the Ottawa Sens or Edmonton Oilers. He fought to keep those teams in their markets when the cdn dollar was at it's lowest and cities like KC, Portland and Houston were sniffing around. Funny how people forget the cdn equilization plan to protect teams against offer sheets and eseentially an early form of revenue sharing for those teams to deal with the gap in currency. And it was the owners not him who wanted the expansion in the 90's. That was worth about 10M to each owner in expansion fees, a handful of teams desperately needed that money and wanted to expand.

But this would be a fantastic move, QC always supported the Nordiques, even when they were horrible in the early 90's. And RDS has hinted they'll give them a big tv deal that will rival the Habs deal.

Sounds to me like we have a poison dwarf supporter amongst us.

I dont care for Bettman, but, you can't deny what he's done for the game in Canada. Ask an Oilers fan how he feels about him, they were a whisker from being the Houston Oilers in 1994 had GB not helped recruit that consortium that bought and kept them in town. Ditto for Ottawa and Buffalo.

If the league is so worried about expansion fees why don't they hike up or create transition or moving fees? Also raise the minimum on the cap so we don't have more players go to the khl.

we're talking 10 years ago about expansion fees.....and the cap is linked to revenues so i'm not sure what you're getting at about raising the minimum...some teams can barely afford the floor

Phoenix to Quebec? The sooner the better!

I'm with Red Devil on this one....The dwarf helped Edmonton Ottawa and Pittsburgh. But any good the dwarf has done is far outwieghed by his continual ****ups.
