07:10 AM ET 07.29 | Free Antonio! Giants brass had nothing to say about their former star, Plaxico Burress, as the knuckleheaded gunslinger prepared to throw himself on the mercy of a Manhattan grand jury today in hopes of averting a gun possession indictment. But the team's president slammed prosecutors for seeking an additional indictment against linebacker Antonio Pierce for allegedly failing to turn Burress' blood-splattered, unregistered Glock over to cops after driving him to the hospital.

Note to self...NEVER go to NY.

This is a witch-hunt for the prosecution now. They KNOW they're gonna be stuck with giving Plax an absolute minimum, so they wanna take it out on Pierce. What the hell was he gonna do? Have a lengthy conversation with his friend about whether the gun was registered or not? Or, I dunno, drive him to the hospital and take care of his stuff. Weak NY.

Wasn't Vick's dogfighting thing based out of GA? Note to self, NEVER go to GA (especially w/your dog)...

July 29, 2009  07:48 AM ET

What are they doing, using Pierce to get to Plax? This is a junk charge. Yeah, technically it's a violation, but it's just bull. Plax's actions were dangerous, Pierce's were not. He probably didn't know that he was even doing anything wrong.

The right thing for a judge to do in this case is "continued with no finding." 6 months later, if he stays out of trouble, the whole thing disappears.

Go after some bad guys. Witch hunt is right.

Concur with all the above - not a very efficient use of taxpayer dollars...

Wrong story friend!

Anyways I dont see why the Giants are mad... Plax committed a crime right? Then Pierce takes the main piece of evidence in the investigation of said crime right? Now I am no lawyer...but unless hiding the gun used in a crime is legal...he should def get in trouble. I am tired of athletes getting away with murder and such with minimum sentences. The reason why these guys keep getting into trouble is because the judicial system does not apply to them teh same way it does your average citizen and on top of that teams and the league are not harsh enough on these guys. PRIVILEGE to get paid a butt load of money and play sports. People who take advantage of that should not be given second and third chances to continue to get paid boat loads of money.

No dumbass... you take him to the hospital and TURN THE GUN IN. I can't BELIEVE people are defending a guy who HID a gun used in a crime.
Must be a New Yorker... what a jackass comment

Come on, man, tell me you haven't held on to a gun for a friend or shredded mass amounts of documents for a tax attorney friend.

July 29, 2009  08:31 AM ET

Not saying he should be arrested but he is a moron for hiding the gun...dont really think he should or will be arrested but I have read stories about this guy and he is a shady, moronic character.

I dont understand whats going on here. I mean even with Burress, the gun he had was registered in florida. And the state of florida allows some other states to recognize it's gun registration laws, now i understand new york is not one of them, but why is the DA pushing the the issue, like the gun was stolen or bought in a back alley. I mean the DA wants him to spend 2 years in jail for a gun registered in Another state and recognized by many other states, after the guy shot himself. WOW. I am not a Giants fan, but a Steelers fan and i am not a big Fan of Plaxico, but this is a way over-zealous DA and Mayor.

Please READ the article before commenting. It says "A club security guard stashed Plax's Glock in the glove compartment of Pierce's Cadillac Escalade before Pierce drove off to take his bleeding teammate to the hospital."....Pierce ( how is he supposed to know that it is not a legally registered weapon at that point? ) then he returns the gun to Burress' home....
Pierce is not a bad guy, nor a trouble maker..He is guilty of being around a world class idiot..

This is off topic but I miss the late 80's - early 90's NYC. Sure, it was crime infested but it was tougher. Now it is full of a bunch of foreigners from other states, and internationals, who try to act "New York tough".

It has become the phoniest city in the world, now. So, you have the right idea.

Where's the loyalty in that. You have obviously never played sports on a TEAM before or served in the military. Cover your mates at all times, especially in the face of the police.

We wouldn't have a military if they all thought like you.

It seems to me that at this point the Club they were at and the people who own and work there are just trying to shield themselves from any culpability...The security guard in particular and the owner by not reporting a shooting in his Club immediately, the Hospital and Doctor on duty for treating a gun shot wound using an alias name.. .That is what I see..A lt of CYA..

July 29, 2009  10:16 AM ET

So trying to help cover up a crime isn't a crime?

Only if you knew a crime was committed..Ask the security guard, the other people at the Club that night , and the attending physician..The Hospital and attending physician have been released from any culpability..

As a gun owner carrying the weapon, it was Plax's responsibility to know the applicable gun laws. Either he didn't know them, or he disregarded them. Either way, he was in the wrong. I'm not arguing the "justice" of the system, just the legal facts.

Now, Pierce wasn't carrying the gun, and to my knowledge he doesn't own one, and didn't carry one into New York. To me, he has no responsibility to be familiar with gun laws. He ended up in the middle of a medical "emergency," and acted within reason. He's not "hiding" evidence if he doesn't even know a crime was committed. He's not "hiding" evidence if the police didn't explicitly ask him about the gun.

What was he supposed to do? Leave the gun on the table at the club? If he did that, then he would not have been "guilty" of "hiding the evidence," but that would have been completely irresponsible.

July 29, 2009  11:40 AM ET

If he knowingly kept the gun from the cops, that's hindering prosecution. However, it doesn't sound like that was the case. If the DA expected him to go out of his way to make sure the cops got the gun, he's smoking crack.
