Dice-K's diva act angers Red Sox

07:04 AM ET 07.29 | As it turns out, they have divas in Japan, too. They have multimillion-dollar athletes who take all of the credit and none of the blame, and they have overpaid excuse-makers just as proficient at passing the buck. Apparently, at least in Daisuke Matsuzaka's house, they just don't have mirrors. "I think we all share, in a word, that it's disappointing," Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell said a short time ago in the Boston clubhouse -- veins all but bulging from his neck -- in response to critical comments made by Daisuke Matsuzaka. Added Farrell when asked if he was frustrated, "The disappointment comes in airing his dirty laundry." Disappointed? No, no, no. The Red Sox are not disappointed. They are downright angry. At instants during an impromptu gathering in the middle of the clubhouse prior to tonight's game with the Oakland Athletics, Farrell looked as if his head were about to explode. The truth is that the Red Sox were tired of Matsuzaka's high-maintenance act a long time ago, but they kept their mouths shut and put up with it because Matsuzaka won games.

You suck Dice-K.

I kind of find this funny.... On so many levels...

veins all but bulging from his neck

Farrell looked as if his head were about to explode.

As it turns out, they have divas in Japan, too

Nice....

And I also figure this is worth about 30 drive bys/new accounts being formed just to say: Serves the Red Sox fans Right!!! They all talk about the yankees!!!

Oh, its gonna be a GOOD day.

I must have missed something. What did Daisuke say to get everyone so peaved?

Per the Rumor Mill (for what THAT is worth)
-The red Sox wouldn't let him condition his arm the way he wanted, therefore, his troubles with his arm, are all their fault...

That was in summary, and I am sure several others will modify it accordingly.

He was running his mouth about how the training regiment was harming him more than hurting him. You know, the same regiment that took him to 18-3 last year, suddenly it was bad, and he didn't agree with it. I guess he's not making enough money to work it out.

He's flat out terrible this year. 18-3 last year, averaging about 5.2 innings (and 120 pitches) per start, with awesome run support. He's "Exhibit A" for Slinky's arguement that wins don't always mean good pitching. I think they should send him to AA so I can go to a Sea Dogs game and fling food at him. He's done NOTHING but talk and lose this year.

That $103million contract (including the posting fee, because that's what the Sox brought up in negotiations) is really looking pretty good right now, huh?

One.

The guy's been pitching that way all his life. They signed him for what he WAS, not what they wanted him to be. Farrell's angry 'cause HE doesn't look good. Given how the Sox pitched yesterday, he DOESN'T look good.

Actually it would appear that there are elements of truth to your statement.

I think he is more upset that Dice went public with his criticism. Instead of keeping in the clubhouse.

For sure that, but we don't know what goes on in the clubhouse. For all we know he's been trying, diplomatically, for a long time (I've heard rumors to the fact although I can't speak to the diplomacy aspect) and they just shut him off.

I don't get a feeling for a lot of 'love' for the man in either Boston or on the team.

Morning all. This ought to be a lively place today. Cant wait for all the idiot haters to come out.

What does that even mean? I don't know what it has to do with fans of either team, but that is a SWEET 4th grade statement. "Waaah! They talk about us! Waaaah!"
Talk about what?
There should be a minimum IQ requirement to be on this site.

That is true.

As far as the fan love: It seemed that many fans were defending him the last two years. This year, several had problems with his participating in the WBC (which I understand both parties there) and coming out this year 'injured'. Here is the thing... Why bring it up in Japan? Say it here.

Like I said, I HAVE heard that complaint on his part and I'm not exactly 'near' Boston nor well read. And I doubt Farrell can read Japanese, so he's reacting to what he's 'heard' someone else recount for him.

Actually, the reporter seems to be throwing gasoline on the fire. Farrell would seem to NOT want to discuss it, probably from orders from above, justly, but this guy won't let it go. The reporter, methinks, may be the 'source' of Farrell's anger.

Like Cat said, there ARE divas. If they win, good; if they lose, bad. Part of the game.

I can't see faulting him for representing his country in the WBC. That's lame.

Minimum IQ.. That is funny. i like that idea.

Not quite sure if you are asking what my post means? Or if you are asjking what three '?' marks mean at the start of your post. Because I am pretty sure that the 3 ? marjks has no actual meaning in the English language. Yes, at the end of a sentence, it would mean that you have the extra two for emphasis, but there is no correct usage of the '?' mark at the start of a sentence.

The language barrier has to play a part in it too. If you don't have good, clear communication, things can be misconstrued. By both sides. I wonder how much time Dice-K put into learning the English language.

Probably a LOT more than Farrell is in learning Japanese, but you are oh so right.
