07:35 AM ET 07.07 | Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones has completed his stint in drug court. Jones was arrested in 2008 on suspicion of cocaine possession and, as part of a plea agreement, was ordered to participate in NFL-sponsored substance-abuse counseling and undergo random drug testing through the end of the football season. Jones said he has learned from his mistakes and that he hopes an NFL team will make him an offer to play in 2009.

Are you talking about a line of cocaine or his football dreams?

sooo much talent wasted

Dude was a great athlete coming out of Arkansas. Where did he go wrong? How can you just throw away the opportunity that he was given and all that money? He'll end up cleaning some high school football field by snorting up the chalk lines.

Stop breaking the law ASS#HOLE!

Seriously, line up, let's play.

Has he STILL not been disciplined by the commish?

The NFL did suspend Jones for the final three games of 2008 after he was charged with cocaine possession. Jones then violated his subsequent probation by drinking alcohol, landing him in jail for five days. Now, more than two months later and after Jacksonville released Jones, he apparently is at liberty to resume his playing career.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the NFL told Jones last week that his punishment would be a $50,000 fine and nothing more.

Is it me or is professional sports sinking into some vicious soap opera-like affair? It seems to be more of a cheesy reality show than a sport. Remember when the biggest concern for your favorite athlete was a significant injury. Now you have to worry about DUIs, drug possession, testing positive for performanc-enhancing and/or illegal drugs, constant contract negotiations, paternity suits, homicides/manslaughter, illegal gun possession, trying to stay way-beyond their prime, discharging a firearm illegally, shooting themselves or getting shot by somebody else. Did I miss anything?

Maybe we should the fans should boycott or sit out a season instead of funding the lifestyles of these overpriced entertainers. And don't tell me that they "rate" the big bucks because their "career" span is shorter and they face career-ending injuries in every game. Tell that to any of our law-enforcement officials or military servicemen and women and see you if get any level of pity.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox.

Mediocre WR who gets more publicity because of his drug issues than his play on the field.

Seriously stop passing stupid laws by the thousands, mind your own business, and remember this was supposed to be a free country. Jones wants to fry his brains let him, it's his to fry. You can break the laws of man but you cannot break the laws of natural selection.

Maybe some team will want him to play. I hear the Vikings are needing receivers to have balls thrown near, ah but can Matt tackle the db after the INT?

This will seriously put a damper on Matt's coke habit. But as long as he get's that contract, the party will continue...

He "learned from his mistakes"
Meaning he learned how to pass a UA without getting caught next time.

Don't disagree but when has JAX ever had a great WR since Jimmy Smith and McCardell? Oh, and who was their QB? Since the Leftwich/Garrard years, they haven'tt had a WR better than Jones I believe. Part of that is because of QB play which has been subpar

I guess he didn't carry a loaded weapon into a club to endanger its patrons, he was just endangering himself...huge difference

Please sign with the JETS, this would be great for Sanchez and the team. Jones would be a great compliment for us.

Don't get so upset! I've done my fair share as well. However, I didn't have a load of cash on the line. Perhaps he did fry his brain, huh?
