07:04 AM ET 05.18 | It was evident from Bryan Price's decision to resign as pitching coach that he was loyal to departed manager Bob Melvin. But comments in recent days also make clear that Price wasn't interested in working with new manager A.J. Hinch. Price told the Marin Independent Journal that hiring Hinch was a "poor decision," and though Price noted Hinch's accomplishments in the front office, he said Hinch "doesn't have any credibility between the lines as a manager." "To me it was a slap in the face not only to Bob but to (coaches) Chip (Hale) and to Gibby (Kirk Gibson) and to anybody who has actually managed or coached in the past," Price said. "I thought it bypassed people who were more prepared to finish out the year."

You do have to question giving the reigns to someone with ZERO managerial experience

I second that...makes you wonder if Hinch has pictures of the owner's wife. (Reminds me of Matt Millen in Detroit... )

Should have turned it over to Gibby. Sooner or later a team is gonna give that guy a shot... we'll see.

How about the fact that Price is an ahole and will never work in MLB again. Owners frown upon being criticized by employees. Not the smartest thing to do.

I don't think he really "ripped" Price, just merely stating facts.

Everyone's gotta start somewhere. Though usually that place is in the minors.
I'm not sure why Hinch got the job in the first place. Do Chip Hale and Kirk Gibson have a lot of coaching experience? Do they have the ears of the players?

price is well known as a numbskull but who knows maybe hes right about this.it seems like the backs couldve named an interim guy, saw how he progressed and made an educated decision after the season was over and you could sift thru all the managerial prospects available..
it does seem millenesque in a way but i hope not i live in zona and ima dback fan...

Rumors in San Diego are that Hinch would've most certainly been scooped up by new owner, exD-Backs GM, Jeff Moorad. So the AZ front office gave him the manager's job just to hang onto him.

There is something to be said for starting fresh, shaking up the apple cart if you will. Its not a slap in the face; it seems to be more of a move designed to light a fire under this squad. It could be seen in either light.
As for that pitching coach...while he definitely has a point, but he should have kept his mouth shut. He will retire a pitching coach. Guess they wont be asking himm round for an interview after the season...
