Beckham suffers from asthma
David Beckham has suffered from asthma since he was a child, it was reported last night, but medical experts were quick to play down fears that he could struggle in the thin air he would encounter at the World Cup in South Africa, where six venues are 3,000 feet or more above sea level. The England midfielder was photographed using an inhaler as he prepared for extra-time in Los Angeles Galaxy's MLS Cup final defeat by Real Salt Lake on Monday morning and yesterday his spokesman Simon Oliveira admitted that the 34-year-old had been forced to deal with a mild form of the condition for some time.

Who will Philly Union draft?
Teams released their protected lists for the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft today. On Wednesday, Nov. 25., expansion club Philadelphia Union will select 10 of its first players. The list of available players holds some of interest to Philadelphia but also a handful of false starts. Some, through age and longevity, will likely avoid the draft (Houston's Pat Onstad, Colubus' Frankie Hejduk, Toronto's Carl Robinson). Others' contracts with MLS will expire this offseason and either are expected to pursue deals abroad or have signed pre-contracts (Houston's Ricardo Clark; Chicago's Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Gonzalo Segares, and Chris Rolfe; and Salt Lake's Yura Movsisyan).

Rangers scouting Dynamo's Holden
The Herald understands Rangers have watched Stuart Holden twice recently, with chief scout Ewan Chester running the rule over the player as the USA went down 3-1 in a friendly earlier this week. Maurice Johnston, the former Scotland and Old Firm striker, is believed to have recommended Holden to Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist after notifying him of his availability on a free transfer.
